National Teamers Continue Assault on Record Books at NCAAs
Olympian and U.S. National Team member Caeleb Dressel continued his assault on the record books Friday at the NCAA Men’s Division I Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneapolis. Dressel, of the University of Florida, broke the meet, NCAA, U.S. Open and American records in the 100-yard butterfly in 42.80.
U.S. National teamers finishing behind Dressel in the 100 fly were Olympian Ryan Held of North Carolina State, who was fifth in 44.88; Justin Lynch of the University of California, who was seventh in 45.02; and Matthew Josa of Cal, who was eighth in 45.11.
Olympian and National Team member Townley Haas of Texas broke the meet, NCAA, U.S. Open and American records in the 200 free in 1:29.50. Finishing second was Indiana University’s Blake Pieroni in 1:30.23. Pieroni, also an Olympian and National Teamer, set the former records in the 200 free at 1:29.63 Wednesday night while leading off IU’s 800 free relay. National Team member Zach Apple of Auburn was third in 1:31.18.
Another National Teamer, Ian Finnerty of Indiana, set the meet, NCAA, U.S. Open and American records in the 100 breast in 49.69.
In other events, National Team member Abrahm DeVine of Stanford won the 400 IM in 3:35.29, a pool record. Other National Teamers swimming in the finals of the 400 IM were Jay Litherland of Georgia, who was fifth in3:39.57; Charlie Swanson of Michigan, who was 6th in 3:39.93; Jonathan Roberts of Texas, who was seventh in 3:40.30; and Gunnar Bentz of Georgia, who was eighth in 3:42.95.
North Carolina State’s Coleman Stewart won the 100 back in 44.58. National Team member Austin Katz of Texas was fourth in 44.99.
Robert Glinta, Carsten Vissering, Dylan Carter and Santo Condorelli of the University of Southern California won the 200 medley relay in 1:21.82.
