Top Swimmers Named to 2018-19 National Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Honoring the nation’s top swimmers for their performances at 2018’s highest domestic and international competitions, USA Swimming today announced the 111 members of its 2018-19 National Team.

The full USA Swimming National Team roster, which is comprised of the top six swimmers in each individual Olympic event, is linked below.

“With nearly 100 medals won at the Pan Pacific Championships and Junior Pan Pacific Championships, USA Swimming enjoyed a strong summer of international competition, and the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships again ranked as one of the world’s most competitive meets,” USA Swimming National Team Managing Director Lindsay Mintenko said. “Our athletes and staff learned a great deal this summer, and we will continue to build toward the ultimate goal of success at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.”

The United States won 43 medals in the pool competition – and added two more medals in open water events – at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo, and last week topped the medal table at the 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Championships with 54 medals.

The 2018-19 USA Swimming National Team by the Numbers:

  • 111 National Team members (57 men; 54 women)
  • 29 states represented; California leads the way with 19 National Team members
  • 70-plus USA Swimming clubs represented; California Aquatics is tops with 13 National Teamers
  • 32 medalists from the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships

The 2018-19 USA Swimming National Team features the top six athletes in each individual Olympic event based off the combined results of the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships, 2018 Pan Pacific Championships and 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Championships. A list of 2018-19 National Team coaches is linked below.

Four swimmers qualified for National Team status in at least four events, including five-time Olympic champion Katie Ledecky (Bethesda, Md./Stanford Swimming), who posted the nation’s top times in the women’s 200-, 400-, 800- and 1500-meter freestyle events. Fellow distance specialist and Olympic medalist Leah Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics) qualified in a team-high five events – women’s 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m free, as well as the 400m individual medley.

Haley Anderson (Granite Bay, Calif./Trojan Swim Club), 2018 Pan Pacific Championships open water gold medalist, qualified in four events across pool and open water competition – women’s 400m, 800m and 1500m free, as well as the 10-kilometer open water event.

Michael Andrew (Lawrence, Kan./Race Pace Club), who won four titles at 2018 Phillips 66 Nationals, was the lone male to qualify in four events, as he ranked among the nation’s top six in the men’s 50m free, 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly.

Leading the 12-member Open Water National Team alongside Anderson is fellow Pan Pacs champion Jordan Wilimovsky (Malibu, Calif./Team Santa Monica), who also qualified in the 800m and 1500m free and won three individual medals at 2018 Pan Pacs.
