U.S. Adds Two More Medals to Its Tally at World Junior Championships on Day 5


2019 Junior Worlds Women's 4x100 Freestyle Relay


The United States won two medals – a gold and a bronze – Saturday at the 7th FINA World Junior Championships in Budapest.

Gretchen Walsh, Torri Huske, Grace Cooper and Amy Tang took gold in the women’s 400m free relay, turning in a time of 3:37.61. The Americans touched more than three seconds ahead of second-place Australia (3:40.85). Italy was third in 3:42.04.

Chase Travis won the other medal for the U.S. Saturday, a bronze in the women’s 1500m free, in 16:18.04. Lani Pallister of Australia took gold in 15:58.86, while Giulia Salin of Italy was second in 16:14.00.

Other American swimming in finals on day 5 were Blake Manoff, who finished eighth in the men’s 50m butterfly in 24.01; Annabel Crush, who finished eighth in the women’s 50m backstroke in 28.72; Jason Louser, who finished fourth in the men’s 400m IM in 4:16.66; and Carson Foster, who finished sixth in the men’s 400m IM in 4:17.39.

After five days of competition, the U.S. medal count stands at 28 – 13 gold, seven silver and eight bronze.
