USA Swimming has hosted multiple webinars and clinics to help spread Diversity, Equity and Inclusion throughout the sport. With Black History Month taking place throughout February, check out some of these webinars from USA Swimming that give perspectives from and resources for Black athletes.

DEI Inclusion All-Star Panel
There are a lot of different ways that DEI initiatives are being tackled around the country. In this webinar, City Swim Project Founder, Mike Switalski, talked with past USA Swimming DEI and disability award winners, Rob Green, Robin Heller, Marvin Thorpe, and Linda Conger. The decorated and impactful group of panelists discuss how they got started in their respective programs, what it takes to succeed, and where they hope to see the sport grow in the future.

Real Talk: Culture Appreciation - How to Start the Conversation
So you want to show up for your athletes but you don’t know what to say. What if you offend, embarrass, or overstep? What can you even ask to get started? Dr. Regina Lewis, Cathy Wright-Eger, and attendees engaged in an interactive discussion about some strategies coaches can use to show up for their athletes.

Real Talk: Walking on Eggshells
Professors Cathy Wright-Eger and Dr. Regina Lewis opened the Real Talk series with an open, honest, and real discussion surrounding some of the challenges faced when we look to talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion. They asked questions, navigated scenarios, and provided real feedback and tools that can equip coaches and team leaders to best handle tough conversations.

Beyond Cultural Blindness: The Experience of Black Athletes in the World of Competitive Swimming

Clinical & sport psychologist, Dr. Kensa Gunter was joined by Olympian Simone Manuel, former National Teamer Sabir Muhammad, and DEI Council member Noah Wilson in a discussion surrounding mental health, performance, and intentional inclusivity. Panelists gave their perspective on what being a swimmer of an underrepresented background has meant for their careers, inside and outside of the pool.
