Hundreds to Compete in Irvine, Greensboro for 2021 Speedo Summer Championships

Hundreds of the nation’s fastest swimmers are getting ready to compete at the 2021 Speedo Summer Championships, which are set to take place August 3-7 in Irvine, Calif. and Greensboro, N.C.

Over 700 athletes are entered to compete in the five-day, long-course meter competition. Here are a few things to be on the lookout for during an exciting week or racing:

Relays

Teams will join up and get the chance to compete in the 4x100-meter freestyle relays, 4x200m freestyle relays and 4x100m medley relays. Be on the lookout for these top-qualifying teams as they take the water:

  • Irvine 4x100m freestyle relay: Trojan Aquatics (men), Irvine Novaquatics (women)
  • Irvine 4x200m freestyle relay: California Aquatics (men), Irvine Novaquatics (women)
  • Irvine 4x100m medley relay: Trojan Aquatics (men), Trojan Aquatics (women)
  • Greensboro 4x100m freestyle relay: SwimMAC Carolina (men), York YMCA (women)
  • Greensboro 4x200m freestyle relay: SwimMAC Carolina (men), Long Island Aquatic Club (women),
  • Greensboro 4x100m medley relay: Ohio State University (men), Ohio State University (women)

Emerging Talents

Dozens of U.S. National Team members will be taking the stage this week. In the west, 2019 FINA World Junior Championships medalist Justina Kozan sits as the top seed in four of the five events she is entered in. She will be joined in Irvine by fellow U.S. National Junior Team teammates Destin Lasco, Juli Arzave, Dare Rose, AJ Pouch and more. Also testing the Irvine waters is Kayla Han, the youngest qualifier at June’s U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming. Han posted an incredible, come-from-behind win in her heat of the 400m I.M. at Wave I of Trials. Watch the incredible swim below:

On the east side of competition, National Junior Team members Will Gallant, Tess Howley, Matthew Fenlon and more will swim in Greensboro. Trials Wave II finalists Jo Jo Ramey, Josh Matheny and Gabby DeLoof are all on the psych sheet as well.

Spectators

For the first time since March of 2020, a senior-level, national swim meet in the U.S. will have fans in the seats!
