USA Swimming Announces Athletes to be Named to 2021-2022 Open Water National Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following today’s results at the Las Vegas Open Water Champions Cup, USA Swimming has announced the names of the athletes to be named to the 2021-2022 Open Water National Team. These athletes qualify via their top five finishes in the men’s and women’s Elite 10K.
Top finishers in the men’s Elite 10K:
1. Michael Brinegar (Columbus, Ind./Mission Viejo Nadadores/Indiana University)
2. David Heron (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo Nadadores)
3. Brennan Gravley (Las Vegas, Nev./University of Florida)
4. Simon Lamar (Sonora, Calif./Harvard University)
5. Dylan Gravley (Las Vegas, Nev./Arizona State University)
This will mark the ninth National Team selection for Heron, fourth for Brennan Gravley, second for Dylan Gravley and first for Lamar. Brinegar, who has already qualified for the 2021-2022 National Team in pool events, has made four career National Teams.
Top finishers in the women’s Elite 10K:
1. Katie Grimes (Las Vegas, Nev./Sandpipers of Nevada)
2. Brooke Travis (Newark, Del./NC State)
3. Mariah Denigan (Walton, Ky./Indiana University)
4. Leah DeGeorge (Jacksonville, Fla./University of Florida)
5. Blair Stoneburg (Jensen Beach, Fla./Treasure Coast Aquatics)
This will mark the second National Team selection for Denigan and Stoneburg and the first for DeGeorge and Travis. For Grimes, this is the second time she has qualified for the Open Water National Team, though she also had already for the 2021-2022 National Team in pool events.
These athletes will join the Open Water National Team alongside Jordan Wilimovsky (Malibu, Calif./Kswim), Haley Anderson (Granite Bay, Calif./Mission Viejo Nadadores) and Ashley Twichell (Fayetteville, N.Y./TAC Titans) who qualify via their appearances in the 10K at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
