Alex Walsh 2022 Division I NCAA Championships


Each month, The Final Sprint will detail recent events that have happened in the world of swimming. Whether it be a fast time, an organizational announcement or a social media post you need to see, The Final Sprint has you covered. Here are a few things that took place this past month:

Between Lane Lines
Two TYR Pro Swim Series, the men's and women's Division I NCAA Championships and more happened this past month. Across all the racing that took place, it was the nine American records set at NCAA Championships that stood out the most: 

  • Kate Douglass, Virginia | 50-yard freestyle (twice!!) | 20.87 (prelims); 20.84 (finals)
  • Kate Douglass, Virginia | 100y butterfly | 49.04
  • Kate Douglass, Virginia | 200y breaststroke | 2:02.19
  • Alex Walsh, Virginia | 200y IM | 1:50.08
  • Katharine Berkoff, NC State | 100y backstroke | 48.74
  • Luca Urlando, Georgia | 100y backstroke | 43.35
  • Virginia women (Kate Douglass, Alex Walsh, Reilly Tiltmann, Gretchen Walsh) | 4x100y freestyle relay | 3:06.91
  • Texas men (Drew Kibler, Coby Carrozza, Luke Hobson, Carson Foster) | 4x200y freestyle relay | 6:03.89

Now, hundreds of the nation's fastest swimmers will have their eyes set on the Phillips 66 International Team Trials, which take place April 26-30 in Greensboro, N.C. and decide the U.S. rosters for the 2022 FINA World Championships and 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Championships.

Around the Pool Deck
Did you see the news? The 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Swimming is heading to Indianapolis!  The competition will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium, which will place three different pools (one competition, two warm-up) inside of the massive football stadium. 

Another competition that was announced in March was the addition of the 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Championships. This event will take place August 24-27 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
