A team of six American swimmers are gearing up to compete at the final stop of the 2022 FINA Marathon Swim World Series, which will take place November 11-12 in Eilat, Israel.
Kicking off the racing this weekend is the mixed 4x1500-meter relay, which starts at 3 a.m. ET on November 11. The U.S. will be one of seven competing National Federations, sending out the team of Anna Auld (West Palm Beach, Fla./University of Florida), Michael Brinegar (Columbus, Ind./Mission Viejo Nadadores), Mariah Denigan (Walton, Ky./Indiana University) and Brennan Gravley (Las Vegas, Nev./University of Florida). While American swimmers have competed at both the Portugal and Canada stops of the competition so far, this will be the first relay team for the United States in 2022 FINA Marathon Swim World Series competition.
Racing continues at 1 a.m. ET on November 12 with the women's 10K, which features the American duo of Auld and Denigan. Denigan comes in ranked as No. 20 in the series rankings following a 10th-place finish in the 10K at the Portugal stop of the series in May. Both Denigan and Auld—who finished 21st—were two of only four 18&Under swimmers who competed in the 10K in Portugal.
The men's 10K, which begins at 3:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, includes Brinegar, Simon Lamar (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Harvard/Fullerton Aquatic Sports Team (FAST)) and the Gravley brothers — Brennan and Dylan (Las Vegas, Nev./Arizona State University). Bringer, a Tokyo Olympian, comes in as the highest-ranked American on the series rankings, sitting in 21st, out of the quartet competing in Israel.
The team will be led by head coach Cory Chitwood (Indiana University), who served as the U.S. head coach at the 2022 FINA World Open Water Championships this past summer.
The competition can be streamed on FINA's YouTube channel. For more information on competing athletes, schedule and results from Eilat, visit https://www.fina.org/competitions/2919/fina-marathon-swim-world-series-2022.
