All individuals must be USA Swimming members in good standing to participate. To qualify, 10-Year Athletes had to represent the United States in at least one of the following events in the previous 10 years: Olympic Games, Pan American Games, long course World Championships, Pan Pacific Games, or World University Games. 10-Year+ Athletes had to represent the United States in the (1) Olympic Games or Pan American Games, not limited to the past 10 years, or (2) long course World Championships, Pan Pacific Games or World University Games in 2011.
Per the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee standards, only current 10-Year Athletes were eligible to vote in the election of the 10-Year Athlete and 10-Year+ Athlete representatives to the USA Swimming House of Delegates.
