Michael Andrew won the 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly on night three of competition at the 2023 TYR Pro Swim Series Fort Lauderdale. He was one of seven National Team members to capture victories at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center on Friday.

Andrew first won the breaststroke in 27.10. In the morning’s 50m breaststroke prelims, he set a new TYR Pro Swim Series record with a time of 26.84.

“I was a little slow on the first half of the 50 and felt my rhythm towards the end,” Andrew said of his performance in the final. “I think, honestly, I came into it trying a little too hard to go fast but breaststroke is one of those weird strokes.”

Shortly after, in the 50m butterfly, Andrew tied with Dylan Carter of Trinidad and Tobago – both hitting the wall in 23.33. The pair also tied for first during the morning prelims, clocking times of 23.25.

Also on the men’s side, Ryan Murphy won the 200m backstroke (1:56.44) and Bobby Finke won the 400m individual medley (4:15.93).

“I really wanted to push the backstroke of that 400 IM,” Finke said. “I’m not too sure what my split was but I just wanted to have a pretty good backstroke split and just hold on from there.”

Regan Smith won the 200m backstroke in a new TYR Pro Swim Series record of 2:05.34. She defeated the field by more than four seconds.

“(I) spent a lot of time focusing on technique, underwaters and things like that, so I think I did really well. I’m psyched.”

Also on the women’s side, Lilly King won the 50m breaststroke (30.04), Abbey Weitzeil tied with Denmark’s Emilie Beckmann for first in the 50m butterfly (26.27) and Katie Ledecky won the 400m individual medley (4:36.04).

The TYR Pro Swim Series Fort Lauderdale will conclude Saturday, March 4 with prelims at 9 a.m. ET and finals at 6 p.m.
