By The Numbers: 2023 TYR Pro Swim Series

The Four stops of the 2023 TYR Pro Swim Series are now in the books. Here’s a look back at some of the standout performances:
Four-peat: Abbey Weitzeil (Santa Clara, Calif./California Aquatics) and Hunter Armstrong (Dover, Ohio/New York Athletic Club/California Aquatics) are the only two athletes to win the same event at all four stops, women’s 50m freestyle and men’s 100m backstroke, respectively. Including other events, Weitzeil picked up nine total wins for the most of any individual athlete across the series.
Winner, winner: Other athletes frequently topping the podium included Regan Smith (Lakeville, Minn./Sun Devil Swimming) picking up eight wins across the series and Lilly King (Evansville, Ind./Indiana Swim Club) winning seven times.
Records Set: Smith set a U.S. Open record in the 200m backstroke at the April TYR Pro Swim Series Westmont, Illinois in a time of 2:04.76. Canada’s Summer McIntosh set U.S. Open and World Junior Records in both the 200m freestyle and 200m butterfly in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in March. France’s Leon Marchand set a TYR Pro Swim Series record in the 200m individual medley in Westmont in a time of 1:55.68 to surpass Michael Phelps’ record of 1:56.32 set in 2012.
Back-to-Back Wins (in Minutes): In Mission Viejo, California, Torri Huske (Arlington, Va./Alto Swim Club) won the 100m butterfly and the 200m individual medley with just over 10 minutes between events. Her Alto Swim Club teammate Claire Curzan (Cary, N.C.) also picked up two victories, winning the 50m butterfly and 200m backstroke within a span of 17 minutes.
Youngest Winner: 14-year-old Kayla Han (La Mirada, California/La Mirada Armada) won the 400m individual medley in Mission Viejo. She became the youngest champion across the series en route to her first TYR Pro Swim Series win. Han also finished second in the 1500m freestyle.
Since 2018, TYR has held the exclusive naming rights for USA Swimming’s Pro Swim Series, a four-stop annual competition featuring some of the top talent in the sport. The series will return in January 2024.
