by Molly O'Mara Fillmore // USA Swimming
USA Swimming announced rosters of coaches and athletes for the World Aquatics Championships – Fukuoka 2023 on Saturday.
On the women’s side, Kate Douglass (Pelham, N.Y./NYAC), Lilly King (Evansville, Ind./Indiana Swim Club), Katie Ledecky (Bethesda, Md./Gator Swim Club), Regan Smith (Lakeville, Minn./Sun Devil Swimming) and Gretchen Walsh (Nashville, Tenn./Nashville Aquatic Club/University of Virginia) are slated to compete in three individual events each. Carson Foster (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mason Manta Rays) will pace the men’s team, also competing in three individual events.
Ledecky and Chase Kalisz (Baltimore, Md./Sun Devil Swimming) have competed in every long course World Championships since 2013, a total of five competitions. Now named to their sixth team, the duo joins an elite group of American athletes – Nathan Adrian, Elizabeth Beisel, Natalie Coughlin, Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps – who have qualified for six World Championships.
