Foster, Luther Clock Impressive Times to Close TYR Pro Championships

The final night of the 2023 TYR Pro Championships took place Saturday evening in Irvine, Calif., as current and former U.S. National Team members came away with impressive first-place finishes.
One of the marquee swims of the night came via National Team member Dakota Luther (Austin, Texas/Longhorn Aquatics) took first place and set the seventh fastest time in the world this year with a 2:06.79 in the women’s 200m butterfly. The performance shaved 0.23 seconds off her personal best and made her just the twelfth American to break 2:07 in the event.
Jake Foster (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mason Manta Rays) won the 200m breaststroke with the ninth-fastest time in the world this year at 2:08.23, marking the first time he went under 2:09. Foster is now the eighth-fastest American in event history.
Tokyo Olympian Erica Sullivan (Las Vegas, Nev./Longhorn Aquatics) returned to the top of a USA Swimming national event podium for the first time since January 2022, clocking a 16:21.47 to win the 1500m freestyle. Sullivan was followed by a pair of U.S. National Junior Team members in Paige McKenna (Easton, Pa./Wisconsin Aquatics) and Maddie Waggoner (Moorestown, N.J./Jersey Wahoos), who finished in 16:23.92 and 16:25.17, respectively.
Olympians Catie DeLoof (Grosse Pointe, Mich./New York Athletic Club) and Phoebe Bacon (Chevy Chase, Md./Wisconsin Aquatics) also had first place finishes on the night, with DeLoof winning the 100m freestyle in 54.06 and Bacon winning the 200m backstroke in 2:09.30. Other notable individual wins included a 1:57.82 in the 200m backstroke for U.S. National Team member Jack Aikins (Cumming, Ga./SwimAtlanta) and a 1:56.91 for Trenton Julian (Glendale, Calif./Mission Viejo Nadadores) in the 200m butterfly.
The meet concluded with the 4x100m freestyle relay, where Australia won the women’s relay and the Indiana quartet of Taiko Torepe-Ormsby, Andrew Benson, Chris Morris and Jake Newmark won the men’s event.
