U.S. Wins Relay Bronze on Day One of Pool Events at World Aquatics Championships

Pool events at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships kicked off this evening in Doha, Qatar. A bronze medal in the men’s 4x100-meter freestyle relay, consisting of Matt King (Snohomish, Wash./Texas Ford Aquatics), Shaine Casas (McAllen, Texas/Longhorn Aquatics), Luke Hobson (Reno, Nev./Longhorn Aquatics), and Carson Foster (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mason Manta Rays), headlined the U.S. performances.  

Men’s 400m Freestyle – FINAL
12 – David Johnston (Dallas, Texas/The Swim Team), 3:46.99

Women’s 100m Butterfly – SEMIFINAL 
2 – Claire Curzan (Cary, N.C./University of Virginia), 57.06

The final will be contested on Monday, February 12.

Men’s 50m Butterfly - SEMIFINAL
1 – Michael Andrew (Encinitas, Calif./MA Swim Academy), 22.94
7 – Shaine Casas (McAllen, Texas/Longhorn Aquatics), 23.22

The final will be contested on Monday, February 12.

Women’s 400m Freestyle – FINAL
11 – Addison Sauickie (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota Sharks), 4:09.67

Race notes:
• The race marked Sauickie’s senior-level, international debut.


Men’s 100m Breaststroke – SEMIFINAL
2 – Nic Fink (Morristown, N.J./Metro Atlantic Aquatic Club), 58.73
9 – Jake Foster (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mason Manta Rays), 59.48

The final will be contested on Monday, February 12.

Women’s 200m Individual Medley – SEMIFINAL
1 – Kate Douglass (Pelham, N.Y./New York Athletic Club), 2:08.41

The final will be contested on Monday, February 12.

Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay – FINAL 
BRONZE – United States, 3:12.29
    Matt King (Snohomish, Wash./Texas Ford Aquatics)
    Shaine Casas (McAllen, Texas/Longhorn Aquatics)
    Luke Hobson (Reno, Nev./Longhorn Aquatics)
    Carson Foster (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mason Manta Rays)

Hobson on the relay: “That was my first for my 4x100 for Team USA. It was a great experience and super fun to race a little bit of a shorter distance than I’m used to. I'm happy to be walking away with a bronze, I think that's a great result for us and was a fun relay.” 

Foster on swimming on a relay with two training teammates (Hobson and Casas): “It's always fun getting to swim on a relay with guys you train with, and to be able to do a 100 was a lot of fun and something I don't get to do often.”


Race Notes:
• Hunter Armstrong and Jack Aikins also received medals for their performances in the morning’s prelims race. This is the first World Aquatics Championships medal of Aikins’ career.


The 2024 World Aquatics Championships continues through February 18, with prelims beginning each day at 1:30 a.m. ET and finals beginning at 11 a.m. ET. All sessions are streamed live on Peacock.
