Douglass on her race: “I’m really happy with that race. I executed it how I wanted to.”
Douglass on her double: “Doing that race after the 100 free is definitely tough, so I knew I would have to just be tough and finish strong. It was definitely a hard one but I’m happy with it.”
Race Notes:
• Douglass swam both events in under 50 minutes.
• Douglass earned back-to-back silver medals in the 200m breaststroke at the World Aquatics Championships.
Men’s 200m Backstroke – FINAL
4 – Jack Aikins (Atlanta, Ga./Swim Atlanta), 1:56.21
Men’s 200m Breaststroke – FINAL
BRONZE – Nic Fink (Morristown, N.J./Metro Atlanta Aquatic Club), 2:08.85
4 – Jake Foster (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mason Manta Rays), 2:09.31
Fink on his race: “I feel pretty good. As much as I’ve been a 200 breaststroker throughout my whole career, I haven’t made a podium at a long course World Champs or the Olympics. Getting on the podium here is a good way to wrap up the meet individually for me and gives me a lot of confidence going into the summer.”
Race Notes:
• The U.S. has medaled in 14 of the last 20 World Championships in the event.
• Fink’s bronze was his first long course World Championships medal in the 200m breaststroke.
Men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay – FINAL
BRONZE – United States, 7:02.08
Luke Hobson (Reno, Nev./Longhorn Aquatics)
Carson Foster (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mason Manta Rays)
Hunter Armstrong (Dover, Ohio/California Aquatics)
David Johnston (Dallas, Texas/The Swim Team)
Hobson on his swim: “I enjoy leading off and I tried to get all these guys the biggest lead possible. I know clean water is huge, so it’s really important for me to get out and go the best time I can. I’m super proud of these guys, especially David (Johnston) and Hunter (Armstrong) who don’t necessarily swim the 200 but stepped-up big time.”
Foster on his leg: “(The coaches) put Luke (Hobson) first, so I’m going to trust that. I like swimming off Luke.”
Armstrong on the relay: “Relays have always been my favorite thing to do and I’ll just reinforce what these guys said. I’m incredibly proud of this team. David (Johnston) was able to bring us home and it was really cool to watch all the team come together.”
Johnston on his swim: “It was a lot of fun. The guys got a great lead, and we’re really happy to get a medal. I enjoyed swimming on this relay with three of my best friends and it’s a moment I’ll never forget. I wanted to get my hand on the wall first, but 1:47.1 is a best time for me by over a second. It was a lot of fun racing out there and hats off to the Chinese and Korean teams, they gave us a great race.”
Race Notes:
• Shaine Casas also earns a medal for his swim in prelims.
The 2024 World Aquatics Championships continues through February 18, with prelims beginning each day at 1:30 a.m. ET and finals beginning at 11 a.m. ET. All sessions are streamed live on Peacock.
