Community Swim Night Reaches Local Families at TYR Pro Swim Series San Antonio

Community Swim Night Reaches Local Families at TYR Pro Swim Series San Antonio

USA Swimming Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion staff hosted local families in San Antonio for another successful TYR Pro Swim Series Community Swim Night event last week.

Before participating in a special VIP meet viewing experience on deck, all attendees heard from Olympian Nic Fink, who shared his inspiring journey from age group athlete to Olympian. Additionally, all athletes who attended were gifted USA Swimming DEI swag and TYR brand swim bag and goggles, further solidifying a one-of-a-kind experience. All attendees were provided dinner on deck to cap the night.

“What I saw in the faces of those young people in attendance was admirations, awe, and aspiration,” TYR Pro Swim Series San Antonio Meet Director and Northside Independent School District Assistant Athletic Director for Aquatics Anthony Plummer said. “What I heard from them, and their parents, was gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity. What I hope to see is all, or some of them, returning to an aquatic facility and pursuing swimming or diving or water polo.”

Working in conjunction with the Northside Swim Center, local middle and high schools were invited to participate in the event. Attendees included 120 athletes and their families from high schools Oliver W. Holmes, John Jay, John Paul Stevens, Southwest, and Southwest Legacy, making it the largest-attended Community Swim Night event to date.

“Thank you to USA Swimming and Northside ISD for hosting us for the Community Swim Night,” Southwest Aquatics Team Head Club Coach Nathan Coppock said. “It was truly a memorable evening for the athletes and their families. The opportunity to meet and watch some of the highest-level athletes in our sport was a great source of inspiration for our kids. This helped reinforce that anything is possible and that you can accomplish your goals if you dedicate yourself.”

Following the success of the inaugural Community Swim Night in Fort Lauderdale in 2023, these events have become a sought-after opportunity to connect with grassroots members at the local level. Read more on the event in San Antonio here.

Coppock continued, “Every day is an opportunity to improve, and our team is riding a wave of motivation in striving to be the best version of ourselves thanks largely to this event.”
