Mary Korey, Jason Walter Named 2024 Junior Pan Pacific Championships Head Coaches
USA Swimming is excited to announce the two head coaches for the 2024 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, set to take place August 21-24 in Canberra, Australia. This year marks the first time Australia will host the Junior meet since its inception in 2005.
Mary Korey (Greater Somerset County YMCA Swimming) will lead the women’s team and Jason Walter (Lakeside Aquatic Club) will lead the men’s team. Both Korey and Walter were assistant coaches for the 2023 World Aquatics Junior Championship Team last summer in Netanya, Israel where athletes earned an astounding 33 medals (15g, 11s, and 7b), the highest of any international federation in attendance.
“We are excited to have coaches Mary and Jason lead our junior athletes in Australia,” USA Swimming National Team Managing Director Lindsay Mintenko said. “Their contributions last year in Israel, in addition to their accomplishments locally, will help guide the continued success of the next generation of Olympians that develop from this meet.”
The athlete roster will be finalized after U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming presented by Lilly concludes in Indianapolis this summer. Only swimmers aged 14-18 years old and not selected for the 2024 Olympic Games are eligible to compete. For a full list of qualifications, please click here.
Charter nations USA, Australia, Japan, and Canada can be accompanied by any other non-European nations. After this year and following the changes made due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pan Pacific Championships will move back to its biannual cadence.
