More Than 150 Olympians Coached by Four Newly Released Legacy Series Coaches

USA Swimming University’s Legacy Series now highlights Jack Bauerle, Cyndi Gallagher, Eddie Reese, and the late Jon Urbanchek for their innovation, commitment to excellence, and experienced leadership in our sport. Combined, these four individuals have coached over 150 Olympians, earning more than 100 Olympic medals in their respective programs. Additionally, they have more than 141 years of collegiate coaching experience, coaching hundreds of NCAA All-Americans and leading teams to 23 NCAA championship titles and dozens of top 10 finishes. All courses are available on the USA Swimming University and are free for members. Each course is approximately one hour.
In addition to producing fast swimmers, Bauerle, Gallagher, Reese, and Urbanchek all led programs grounded in the principles of the Quality Coaching Framework. These coaches saw their athletes as people first and athletes second while creating demanding but supportive environments for individuals to pursue and achieve goals.
Urbanchek’s course is especially special since his passing before the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming last year. In 2020 he was interviewed and taught a master class on his training system and philosophy. Since his passing, the course has focused on diving deeper into the gear system, season planning, and periodization of coaching swimmers. To reinforce Urbanchek’s training philosophy, the course includes meaningful interviews with many people who swam and coached with him, who speak about his impact on their lives and careers.
A Keeping Athletes First initiative, The Legacy Project is a masterclass series featuring individuals who have significantly impacted the swimming coaches’ community. Their contributions are so remarkable that we don’t want their knowledge and experience lost to future generations. The previous Legacy Coach series with Bob Bowman, Jim Ellis, and Kate Lunsten are still available.
