Registration Open for Immersive Coach Development Academy This Fall

Registration is open for USA Swimming’s Coach Development Academy (CDA), a transformative in-person retreat designed to help swim coaches grow into more effective teachers, leaders, and communicators. The CDA, grounded in global principles of coach development, will be held October 30-November 2, 2025, at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center (USOPTC) in downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado. This four-day clinic offers a unique opportunity for newcomers and veteran coaches to engage in immersive, hands-on educational sessions while living and learning in the heart of Olympic sport.
“The Coach Development Academy is more than just a clinic, it’s a powerful learning experience that equips coaches with the practical tools and strategies needed to lead with confidence and purpose,” said USA Swimming Director of Education and Curriculum Maggie Vail. “Whether you’re just starting your coaching journey or looking to elevate your impact, this program creates a rare opportunity to grow, collaborate, and return home with renewed energy and fresh ideas that directly benefit your athletes and team culture.”
The theme of this year’s CDA is “Tools for Effective Coaching.” Through age group-specific cohorts, attendees will actively explore and apply coaching strategies that immediately translate to their home programs. The agenda includes:
- Teaching the ways children learn best,
- Harnessing athlete motivation,
- Leading in a transformational way,
- Designing high-quality training sessions, and
- Applying and practicing on the pool deck.
Coaches will have the opportunity to stay in the athlete dorms, eat in the Olympic dining hall, and learn alongside peers in an elite athletic setting. The cost of attending is $400, and includes all meals, lodging, and ground transportation from the Colorado Springs Airport.
Registration is now open, and spots are limited. The event is expected to sell out, so early registration is strongly encouraged.
All USA Swimming coach members in good standing are welcome to attend. Coaches at any stage in their career can benefit, but those with fewer than five years of experience are especially encouraged to apply. Other eligibility criteria include:
- A willingness to participate in active, hands-on learning,
- A passion for building community within the coaching profession,
- Comfort with light outdoor activity in a dynamic training environment, and
- 18 years of age or older.
Programs such as the CDA are used across the global sports landscape, from soccer to hockey, and are a proven model for developing effective coaches. USA Swimming is proud to bring this model to the swimming world, providing an engaging space for coaches to learn, connect, and grow in a way that ultimately improves the athlete experience.
