USA Swimming Foundation Announces New Board Chair Anne Berry and Welcomes Newly Elected and Incumbent Members to Its Board of Directors

2026 Foundation Board Announcement

The USA Swimming Foundation, the philanthropic arm of USA Swimming and U.S. Masters Swimming, today announced the election of Anne Berry as Chair of the Foundation Board of Directors, along with the addition of four newly elected members and the re-election of six incumbent members. Together, this group will guide the Foundation’s philanthropic strategy, and expand access to the sport of swimming.

Berry is a lifelong participant in the sport and brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in corporate and government relations. Her engagement across all levels of swimming, from athlete and coach to Masters swimmer and advocate, reflects her deep commitment to water safety and expanding learn-to-swim opportunities for children nationwide. Berry will serve as Board Chair from January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2029.

Berry succeeds David Shackley, who has served as Board Chair since 2021. During his tenure, Shackley strengthened the Foundation’s profile, donor relations and support for programs benefiting athletes and communities across the country. The Foundation extends its gratitude for his dedicated service.

“We are fortunate to have a leader of Anne’s caliber stepping into this role,” said Kevin Ring, President and CEO of USA Swimming and USA Swimming Foundation. “Her experience, steady leadership, and commitment to service will strengthen the Foundation during a pivotal time for our organization. We are equally pleased to welcome four exceptional new board members whose collective expertise will expand our reach and deepen our impact in communities across the country.”

The USA Swimming Foundation proudly welcomes four new board members, each bringing strong professional experience and deep connections to the sport:

  • Deirdre Clute: Managing Director at Forum Ventures, with expertise in fundraising strategy, leadership development and organizational growth. A former captain of the Harvard swimming team and active Masters Swimming athlete, she brings strong networks across business and alumni communities.
  • Brendan Donohue: Veteran sports executive and former NBA 2K League Board Chair, with extensive experience in board governance, enterprise leadership and philanthropic development. A dedicated swimmer and triathlete, he is also actively involved in Special Olympics programming.
  • Ethan Hallowell: Vice President at RedBird Capital Partners, focused on global sports, media and entertainment investments. A former Stanford swimmer and water polo athlete, he also contributes to philanthropic initiatives in poverty reduction, conservation and Special Olympics leadership.
  • Brian Rodde: Managing Partner at Makena Capital with nearly two decades of leadership across private equity, real estate and venture capital. A former NCAA champion and captain of the Stanford swimming team, he remains active in Masters Swimming and serves on boards supporting aquatics and athletics.

Six incumbent members were re-elected to continue their service on the Board of Directors:

  • Alex Blavatnik
  • John Enquist, Sr.
  • Kyle Jackson
  • Cullen Jones, OLY
  • Scott Rosman
  • David Shackley

The newly elected and returning members will join other members of the Board who are currently in the middle of their service terms, ensuring continuity and institutional knowledge across the Board.

“I’m thrilled to have been elected Chair of the USA Swimming Foundation for the most important quad in a generation,” said Berry. “The opportunity to support the National Team for success in Los Angeles, bring the lifesaving skill of swimming to children and adults, and support our community partners with intentional opportunities is humbling. I have always believed that swimming is for everyone, and I look forward to bringing more people to our amazing sport.”

The USA Swimming Foundation Board of Directors provides strategic oversight for the organization’s philanthropic strategy and investment in programs including the Learn to Swim Grant Program, National Team support, and initiatives that promote water safety and increase access to swimming across the country.
