Smith on team swims: "I think we're all showing our fatigue. That's the point of this time of the season. This is very good practice for all of us."

Smith on goals for 2026: "My biggest goal for myself is more consistency in the 200 fly. I can be all over the board in that event. I want to lock in more consistent 2:04s and 2:05s. 2:03 is my best time, so I think that's my biggest goal."

Erisman on her preparation for the meet: "We just came off our big winter training block, so three weeks of really hard training. At this meet, it gave me a lot of confidence. We were doing really hard sets, so I just knew I could go out there, have fun, and throw down some good times. I'm really proud of myself."

Erisman on her goals for 2026: "This summer, I hope to do really well. I'm graduating from high school and going to college, so that's really exciting. I think it's going to be another big learning year for me. 2025 was also a big learning year, so just keep having fun."

Guiliano on training: "I think we all know that it's tough coming into a meet after all the work we've put in, but being in this group, it's easy to motivate each other to go fast. Every day we push each other. I love being the energy guy, bringing the energy at 6 am. It's great being able to go in every day and work. This is the time to work."

Day 3 Results: January 16, 2026

Men's 800m Freestyle - FINAL

2. Anna Elendt (GER), 30.76

3. Kate Canales (Boerne, Texas/Alamo Area Aquatic Association), 32.02

Smith on her double: "I've never really done a double like that before, so that was really fun. I'm just happy I made it back. I just started training fly in September, so even being able to do that is awesome."

Smith on the 50m breast: "Great swim, great off the start. That's probably one of my best starts. But I'm still inching towards my best time. I've been 30.4 a thousand times, happy with it, but I really want to get under it. Looking forward to it."

Smith on her training and her starts: "We just switched the pool to short course, so we were able to use our start blocks. It's one of those that I'm still swimming in the 200m breast groups. I don't love it, but I know it works for me, so it's definitely been super hard training. It's great with my group though."

Men's 50m Breaststroke - FINAL

1. Van Mathias (Portland, Ore./Indiana Swim Club), 26.89

2. Denis Petrashov (KGZ), 27.12

3. Mitch Mason (Houston, Texas/Texas Ford Aquatics), 27.33

Mathias on his race: "I'm feeling solid. I wanted some more out of it, but I think the wear and tear from the week is catching up with me a little bit. I'm happy with the race and touching the wall first. You can't go wrong with winning your race."

Mathias on his nutrition: "I'll tell you what, Austin has been really kind to us. A lot of Mexican food over the past few days. I would say rocket fuel. It's been good, you try to eat a well-balanced diet when you're at a meet, but it's not like home cooking. You have to go into it expecting some different food options."

Mathias' advice on getting back in the water: "When you take time off from the sport and step away from it, you begin to appreciate the day in and day out things - the camaraderie, the relationships, the discipline, the accountability, waking up early and going to practice. Just don't take it for granted, enjoy it. I might be an exception, but you can only swim for so long."

Women's 200m Freestyle - FINAL

1. Claire Weinstein (White Plains, N.Y./Unattached), 1:56.62

2. Anna Peplowski (Germantown Hills, Ill./Indiana Swim Club), 1:57.01

3. Rylee Erisman (Windermere, Fla./Laker Swim), 1:57.19

Weinstein on her training and race: "I'm feeling good, it's nice to get some racing in. Training and the transition have been really good. Obviously, every program is different. It has been a learning experience adjusting, but I think that every program comes with its own benefits, and just pulling from that has been the mindset."

Men's 200m Freestyle - FINAL

1. Ryan Erisman (Windermere, Fla./California Aquatics), 1:46.66

2. Luke Hobson (Reno, Nev./New York Athletic Club), 1:47.31

3. Carson Foster (Cincinnati, Ohio/New York Athletic Club), 1:47.49

Erisman on his double: "I'm feeling great now that I'm finished. It was great, it was a good experience to swim both races, so I'm happy."

2. Beryl Gastaldello (FRA), 24.85

3. Marie Wattel (FRA), 24.97

Manuel on training and her double: "Overall, I feel good about it. It's been a pretty hard two months of training. With being at the (Olympic Training Center), had a little break heading into the (Toyota) U.S. Open, and then really putting our foot on the pedal right after, it's been a tough couple months of training. I came into this meet just seeing what I have, given the work our team has put in. I'm happy to have two solid swims and get more good racing in."

Manuel on 50 free: "The 50 free is always up and down for me. It's definitely a frustrating event at times because it seems like my 50 free are usually not good until the end of the season. I'm kind of swimming from behind. Gratefully, I've been able to win at Olympic Trials and World Championships, but it's one of those things that I have to continue to focus on the details. Even in season when I'm tired and my speed is not there, because at the end of the year, it usually shows up."

Manuel on the 10-year anniversary from her Olympic gold medal: "It is crazy to think that I'm still doing this 10 years later. It's a pretty big milestone and hopefully I can get a couple more (gold medals). That's obviously what I'm striving for. I'm totally a different person and swimmer than I was at that time. You mentioning that it's 10 years, it's really special to look back on and realize that there is so much growth for me in and out of the pool, and I think that's what life is really about."

3. Rowyn Wilber (Fresno, Calif./Clovis Swim Club), 2:14.38

Crush on her race strategy: "Part of my prep for that race was trying to be more relaxed. I think I struggle with that sometimes. I think today was a good practice, especially for the beginning of the season."

2. Summer McIntosh (CAN), 58.56

3. Marie Wattel (FRA), 59.58

Smith on swimming at her home pool: "It's really nice that we haven't had to travel in awhile. I think after a really busy 2024 and 2025, it's nice to stay at home base for a couple of months. It's been a nice opportunity."

Smith on her race strategy: "I think I've really nailed down my 100 fly race strategy. I'm not a super sprint-y butterflyer. I take it out smooth but strong and then I come back as fast as I can. It works out well because it doesn't hurt too bad. That was a really good swim."

Ledecky on training: "Training has been incredible, I have a really great group of distance swimmers at Florida and it's been really hard the last month. That hard training gives me a lot of good confidence, which always helps."

3. Mitch Mason (Houston, Texas/Texas Ford Aquatics), 1:00.50

Mathias on his race: "I'm feeling pretty good, it's good to be racing here and it's my second time in about a month. We got some good training in between the Toyota U.S. Open and now, and I think it's starting to show a bit."

Mathias on managing working and training: "Training has been busy, I'm obviously working and training at the same time. It's tough trying to do what I want the pool and also in the office. I'm focusing on a little more balance in my life and it's starting to pay dividends in the pool. Sometimes I don't manage both well, it's tough. I love the sport. I love working for Ray (Looze) and (Indiana University). It's what drives me every day to keep going. There are tough days, but at the end of the day, I love it so I came back."

Smith on her race: "After being 58 at U.S. Open, I wanted to be a 57 starting in 2026. I just squeaked under, so I'm pretty happy with that."

Smith on training: "We are in a really tough spot with training right now. I lifted yesterday and had a really hard double on Monday, so all things considered, it's pretty good. In our Christmas training block, we were doing four doubles a week and lifting three-times a week. We were doing 65 - 70,000  yards/meters weeks so it was just crazy. Every day, there was no reprieve, no let up. I did a lot of really good backstroke sets. I love doing that because it really make me feel confident. In backstroke, I really need repetition to feel good about it. We did a lot of it so that's the positive side."
