USA Swimming, the National Governing Body for swimming in the United States, today announced the coaching staff that will lead the Pan Pacific Championships roster.
The Pan Pacific Championships presented by One America Financial are set for August 10-15 in Irvine, Calif., featuring the Open Water 10k competition on August 10, followed by four days of pool competition from August 12-15.
Leading the coaching staff is renowned head coach Bob Bowman.
Bowman, Director of Swimming and Diving and Head Men’s Coach at the University of Texas, most recently coached the Longhorn men to back-to-back NCAA team titles in 2025 and 2026 after guiding Arizona State to a national championship in 2024. He is a six-time USA Swimming Coach of the Year and was named the College Swimming Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2024 and 2025.
“I am humbled and grateful to lead this team at this summer’s Pan Pacific Championships,” Bowman said. “This meet has traditionally been a launching pad for new talent and an opportunity for experienced veterans to begin their Olympic campaigns in earnest. We have a strong group of athletes, coaches, and staff who will represent our country well.”
Bowman previously served as head coach for the U.S. men’s team at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. This will be the second time Bowman has served as a coach at the Pan Pacific Championships; he was the head coach of the men’s team in 2014.
“We are thrilled to bring this group of talented coaches together to lead our Pan Pacific Championships Team,” USA Swimming National Team Managing Director Greg Meehan said. “They are quality people, teachers, and mentors whose ability to connect with others will strengthen our team’s performance.”
Joining Bowman on the coaching staff are:
- Carol Capitani (Women’s Swimming & Diving Head Coach, University of Texas)
- Todd DeSorbo (Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Head Coach, University of Virginia)
- Dave Durden (Director of Swimming & Diving/Head Coach, University of California, Berkeley)
- Chris Lindauer (Director of Women’s Swimming, Stanford University)
- Ray Looze (Men’s and Women’s Swimming Head Coach, Indiana University)
- Whitney Hite (Men's and Women's Swimming Sr. Associate Head Coach, University of Florida)
- Mohammad Khadembashi (Executive Director and Head Coach, TSM Aquatics)
- Stefani Wendelschaefer (Assistant Swimming Coach, North Carolina State University)
The Pan Pacific Championships will feature top swimmers from across the Pacific Rim, including the United States, Australia, Canada, and Japan, and serve as a key international competition in the global swimming calendar.
“One of our primary goals is to appoint coaching staffs who represent a combination of experience and youth,” Meehan said. “The depth of quality coaches in the United States is truly one of our greatest assets, and this staff reiterates that.”
