USA Swimming, the national governing body for swimming in the United States, and its fundraising arm, the USA Swimming Foundation, today announced the 2025 Historically Black College and Universities (HBCU) grant recipients. Eight HBCU programs will receive funding this year, which will help them to start youth and adult water safety lessons, a community serving USA Swimming club, or expand university-based swim clubs. Since the program’s inception in 2021, $272,500 has been provided to directly impact individuals and create opportunities at the local level.
“The USA Swimming Foundation is honored to continue working alongside companies like OneAmerica Financial, to directly impact individuals and create opportunities at the local level,” said USA Swimming Foundation Executive Director Elaine Calip. “Revitalizing aquatic opportunities at HBCU’s is a priority for USA Swimming, and collaborations like this one can impact generations to come.
In 2022, OneAmerica Financial committed to supporting the USA Swimming Foundation through a 10-year, $1 million initiative to develop learn-to-swim and competitive opportunities in communities across the country.
“Through our relationship with USA Swimming, we’ve developed a greater appreciation for how more funding will not only enable HBCUs to utilize their swim facilities more fully for recreation and competition but also create greater access to water safety programs for the community,” said Kim Thomas, SVP and Chief Human Resources Officer at OneAmerica Financial. “Our investment will not only help save lives but potentially expand competitive swimming for HBCU students.”
Congratulations to the below programs for receiving funding this year:
