Nation’s Top Junior Swimmers Slated for Speedo Winter Junior Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Hundreds of the United States’ top rising swimming stars, including 30-plus members of the USA Swimming National Junior Team, will be in action at this week’s Speedo Winter Junior Championships, opening Wednesday in Greensboro, North Carolina, and Austin, Texas, respectively.

A live webcast from both sites will be available online at usaswimming.org throughout the short-course-yards competitions. 

Fresh off hosting last week’s USA Swimming Winter National Championships, the Greensboro Aquatic Center will welcome the Speedo Winter Junior Championships – East this week. Following an opening session Wednesday at 6 p.m. EST, daily prelims and finals will be held at 9 a.m. EST and 5 p.m. EST Thursday through Saturday.

National Team member Alex Walsh (Nashville, Tenn./Nashville Aquatic Club) is expected to lead the women’s field in Greensboro, which features five swimmers who have earned individual medals in junior international competition. Joining Walsh will be her sister Gretchen Walsh (Nashville, Tenn./Nashville Aquatic Club), Isabel Ivey (Gainesville, Fla./Windermere Lakers), Ella Nelson (Nashville, Tenn./Nashville Aquatic Club) and Maxine Parker (New Canaan, Conn./Chelsea Piers Aquatic Club).

Standout male competitors expected to compete in the East meet include individual international medalists Adam Chaney (Mason, Ohio/Mason Manta Rays), Carson Foster (Montgomery, Ohio/Mason Manta Rays), Jake Foster (Montgomery, Ohio/Mason Manta Rays), Arik Katz (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota Tsunami) and Jake Magahey (Dacula, Ga./Swim Atlanta).

Meanwhile in Austin, the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center will host the Speedo Winter Junior Championships – West. The meet will open with a 7 p.m. session on Wednesday, with daily prelims and finals following at 10 a.m. EST and 6 p.m. EST Thursday through Saturday.

The field in Austin is expected to be highlighted by a trio of USA Swimming National Team members – Regan Smith (Lakeville, Minn./Riptide Swim Team), Isabelle Stadden (Blaine, Minn./Aquajets Swim Team) and Gianluca Urlando (Sacramento, Calif./DART Swimming).

Four others who have won individual international medals at the junior level are also slated to compete in the West meet – Katharine Berkoff (Missoula, Mont./Missoula Aquatic Club), Ethan Heasley (Hillsboro, Ore./Hillsboro Swim Team), Peter Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Edina Swim Club) and AJ Pouch (Henderson, Nev./Team Rebel Aquatics).
